Sulawesi tour map
The magical forest of Tangkoko, located at the foot of Mount Dua Saudara, is inhabited by the most unusual species of wild animals and birds of Sulawesi. Tangkoko is one of the oldest nature reserves in Indonesia. Hills and valleys covered with a thick carpet of tropical trees inhabited by exotic fauna are exactly the place where you can meet tarsier monkeys and large flocks of endemic black macaques. Photographing these primates, observing their life in their natural habitat is a very special experience for a wildlife photographer.

This will be a real photo safari, unity with nature. Accompanied by a ranger, we will go deep into the wild jungle. There are not many tourists and photographers here yet, so we can say with confidence that the photos should be rare, interesting and unusual, and the experience of communicating with animals unforgettable.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1 (September 13)

We meet in the evening at the Swissotel PIK Avenue in Jakarta, near the airport.

Day 2 (September 14)

Early in the morning we fly from Jakarta to the capital of North Sulawesi, Manado. From there we have about a three-hour drive to Tangkoko National Park. The road is quite picturesque and runs along green, forested hills. We stay in houses right at the entrance to the national park and rest after the flight.

Days 3-4 (September 15-16)

These two days we will completely dedicate to photographing animals in the national park. The best shots are taken in the morning at dawn and in the evening twilight. Therefore, we use this time to the maximum. Early in the morning we will go to the jungle to photograph a family of black macaques in their natural habitat. The macaques are friendly and allow you to get quite close. In the morning they are usually near the beach. For the evening shooting we will go in search of the nocturnal inhabitants of Sulawesi - cuscus, tarsiers and other animals. You can take flashlights and compact spotlights with you. This will help us film the nocturnal inhabitants of the jungle.

Day 5 (September 17)

On this day we return to Manado airport and fly to Jakarta, where our tour ends.
Animals and plants that we can find in Tangkoko National Park

Crested Black Macaque (Macaca nigra nigra)
Endangered due to habitat loss and hunting, the Crested Black Macaque is now listed as endangered. The species is found only in forested areas on the northernmost tip of Sulawesi. The Black Macaque is the main attraction of our trip, they are incredibly photogenic.

Large fig tree (Ficus variegata)
This plant dominates the forests of North Sulawesi's Tangkoko National Park and is distinguished by its incredible patterned roots.

Gursky's Spectral Tarsier (Tarsius spectrumgurskyae)
Gursky's tarsier is one of the smallest primates in the world, weighing no more than 100g. These animals live in small family groups in tree hollows and come out at night to eat insects and other small animals.

Bear Cuscus (Ailurops ursinus)
Endemic to Sulawesi and nearby islands in Indonesia, its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forest.

Sulawesi Dwarf Cuscus (Strigocuscus celebensis)
This animal weighs no more than a kilogram and leads a strictly nocturnal lifestyle. It feeds mainly on leaves. It is endemic to Sulawesi and several coastal islands.

Green-backed Kingfisher (Actenoides monachus)
A very beautiful large forest kingfisher with a large orange bill, moss-green back, orange-brown underparts and a white throat. The head is bright azure-blue in the north and central Sulawesi and very dark black-blue in the south. Females have rufous markings on the face, which are absent in males.
