Ethnographic photo expedition to Yamal
In this photo-excursion trip, you will have the opportunity to visit the famous northern festival known as the "Day of the Reindeer-Herders." The Day of Reindeer-Herders is an indigenous cultural celebration of wrestling competition and races on reindeer sleds in the northern part. We will get a chance to photograph the Nenets racing in their traditional costumes, children dressed in beautiful multi-coloured fur coats and the natural beauty cladded in its traditional dresses.
Our stay will be with the local families' in their households, where we will get a chance to capture the life of the local people living in the nomadic reindeer herders. Not many people on earth are fortunate enough to spend their lives in such an old-fashioned manner. We are talking about the indistinguishable lives of people who are still living the lives as their ancestors. We will get a chance to capture their stories live from the inside.
Not to miss, we will also experience the aurora lights shining over the endless tundra.

EXPEDITION ITINERARY
Day 1
Meeting in Salekhard. The Festival of reindeer herders.
We plan to visit this festival on our 1st day or on the last day of the expedition. The final event date of the event will be communicated in the winter.
Our route will begin right on the Arctic Circle in the city of Salekhard on Yamal. Arriving on the morning flight, we will go to the village of Aksarka, 60 km East of Salekhard, where the largest reindeer herding festival takes place in Yamal. This amazing event takes place once a year on the ancient Nenets land.
After visiting the festival, we will go to the camp of nomadic reindeer herders (another 60-80 km) on a 6-wheeled all-terrain vehicle, where we will settle in the chums.

Reindeer herders of Yamal
These days we will spend in three different camps of Nenets reindeer herders, 2 days in each family. We will live with them in their hut, photograph their daily life, live amidst a herd of half-wild reindeer in the tundra. Together with our hosts, we will eat traditional dishes, predominantly reindeer meat, fish and taiga berries. Of course, there will be more familiar menus available as well. We will rest in sleeping bags, inside a traditional dwelling, and, at night, our hosts will run a generator to recharge our batteries.
We will learn how to harness the reindeer and ride them. At night we will watch the polar sky in the hope of photographing the northern lights.
